Nowadays, government has a plan to increase the refined fuel oil’s price
on April next month. There are many reactions of people who against this policy,
especially for the middle society. However, I think government should not take
this policy in two reasons.
First, the increasing of refined fuel oil’s price will influence the number of poverty in Indonesia. It will increase 2
percent bigger than before. According to the research that have done by some
institutions said that the compensation fee of the increasing of refined fuel oil’s price, about Rp. 18,1 trillion
can reach only 30 percent of poverty in Indonesia. In addition, it cannot
spread evenly and surely the problem of poverty in this country become worse
because government cannot find the right way to solve this problem. We can see
the government experience when they increased the price of refined fuel oil in
2005, then they made a program by giving BLT, but it could not be successful. Clearly, this government’s policy just made the poverty problem in Indonesia more complicated. On the other side, our ex-president
Megawati Soekarnoputri also disagreed with the government’s policy, she said, “if the case
only choosing either increasing or
limiting the using of refined fuel oil that can harm society especially for low
classes, absolutely I refuse it.”
Second, the increasing of
refined fuel oil’s price will influence the economical problem in this country.
The economical problem means the price of daily need, the transportation cost, and
many others. Nowadays, government has not decided this policy yet, but the
daily need have increased. Moreover, there is a
big possibility that the transportation cost will incearse drasticly. It shows that the policy of increasing the refined
fuel oil truly gives real bad effect in society. Besides,
Ita Nur Janah, a college
student of Faculty of Economy said, “I do not agree with government.
If the price of refined fuel oil increase, I am as a student has not ready yet
if the price of the daily need will increase too”. In addition, acording to the Research and Development of Kompas about the government‘s
way by the increasing refined fuel oil’s price can solve the economical problem
and the result is 51,1% they were sure , 36,51% they were not sure, and 11,11%
they were abstention. Indeed, the price of refined fuel oil always related to
the economical problem that happend in around us.
Even though many people
against this policy, but our President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has reason why
government should take this policy. He said, “the decision to increase the
refined fuel oil’s price is saving our economical in the future.” Besides,
Hatta Rajasa also supported the goverment policy. He explained that it was the
correct way to increase the refined fuel oil’s price. He added that this
increasing would followed by inceasing of subsidy for society. It could be the
school’s operational fee (BOS), health assurance, BLT, and many others until
this increasing do not influence for the poverty in Indonesia. However, the
goverment’s reason to increase the price of refined fuel oil is not the right
way. We can see the goverment’s experience when they increased the price of
refined fuel oil, but it still gave the bad effect for society.
In conclusion, there are still alot of effects which are
caused of the goverment’s policy about increasing the price of refined fuel
oil, such as increasing the number of poverty and economical problem. However, government has logical reasons why
they should take this decision. In my opinin, for this case I think government
should look for another way to solve
government’s problem without increasing the price of refined fuel oil, but if
the government have to take this policy, they should know how to prevent those
kind of effects harm the society in Indonesia.
