The Examples of Authentic Assessment

1.       Interview
Teacher asking questions to the students and students answer those questions.  The questions are sometimes about things related to the students. There are some kinds of questions that depend on the purposes:
a.       Asking about the facts
b.      Asking about opinions
c.       Asking for explanations
d.      Asking for argumentations
In this interview teacher should divide the interview into some parts depending on what the teacher needs, then he/she give a certain kind of question in each part. Each part of the interview is designed having a specific purpose. So, the teacher does not asking questions to the students randomly.

2.       Retelling
This authentic assessment is done by asking the students to retell the texts they have read or listened orally. After retelling the text, students can be asked about the questions related to the story they have retold by the other students.
There are three things to evaluate from this activity:
a.       Speaking skill
b.      Organization
c.       Students’ response to the text

3.       Making essay
Students are asked to make essays or any other writings, they can be description, narration, exposition, ETC
Assessing can be done in two approaches:
i.                     Global approach:
It focuses on the whole essay
ii.                   Component approach:
It focuses on the certain aspects of the essay. The aspects can be the idea of the essay, organization, language use, and the use of the marks.

4.       Project
By using this authentic assessment, teacher can assign the students to do some projects which the result can be shown to the people.

5.       Experiment
Students can also be assigned to do an experiment and explain it by demonstration. They can write the background of the experiment, purpose, steps, and conclusion.
They can report it in spoken or written form

6.       Written assignment
It is what we usually do in school; reading text and answer the question related to the text.

7.       Observation
The meaning of this observation is that the teacher observes the activity that is done by the students. Observation can be done in two ways:
Spontaneous observation: observing everything that happens without any plan or preparation.
Structured observation: observing everything with plans or preparations before.

8.       Portfolio
Collecting students’ works in order to know the students’ skill development from time to time.
The key words of this authentic assessment are: work collections, self-assessment, development of the study, and the purpose of the study.
