Government’s Failure

Indonesian government has not shown the best result of their performance. Some of problems in this country increase year by year and have never stopped. Some society give apreciation to goverment perfomance because they feel goverment has given solution to their life such as; BLT, BOS, P2KP, and Raskin. However, I feel that government has failed to lead this country because of the poverty, corruption, and education problem still happen.
The first reason is poverty. Poverty in Indonesia is a widespread issue though in recent years the official numbers show a declining trend. We know that poverty in this country has never stopped since Indonesia were independent till now. That problem has not gotten solution although our government has done so many ways. For example, most of society in this country keep stays in  poverty's problem. Contrary with our society which life in poverty’s problem, our government live in luxury life. It is the fact that shows our goverment’s performance does not well nowadays. They does not work seriously to decrease the number of poverty in this country. so that, as an educational society, we should think about this problem and help our society to find the best solution.
A second reason to support my opinion is about corruption. Corruption in Indonesia is extreme and rampant, because it can be found from the smallest parts of the government to the largest parts of the government. It is the big problem that must be faced  by Indonesian society. I do not know why and what their reason is. As we know that they get big enough salary from this country to give service to us. It should be impossible for them to be corruptor because they get big salary enough and also they get so many luxurious fasilities from this country. Based on statistic corruption data in 2010 and 2011, Indonesia stay on 16th rank in Asia-Pacific. Corruption in Indonesia can be and must be defeated by straightforward actions motivated by a strong political wil to Indonesian future better.  (http://www.indonesiamedia.com/2010/04/25/corruption/)
The final reason to support my opinion is about the quality of education in Indonesia. This problem still become homework to our goverment. In the other side, our goverment always changes curriculum to be better, but they cannot apply the curriculum to remote areas.Anton Widyanto said "Although the National Education Department promotes school based management programs, planty of schools cannot implement them properly. The lack of pre-service and in service training for teachers and low community participation particularly in remote and rural areas are the main factors that have caused this problem" (http://learning-forum.blogspot.com/2009/01/education-in-indonesia-short-notice.html) . I agree with that statement because our goverment should be able to make a good quality of education for our generation on the whole Indonesia. The government also needs to widen the access for education to rural people such as life skill or vocational training. It can be understood that there are still many challenges to upgrade the quality of education in Indonesia, particularly to achieve the education for all goals. The next elected government must be consistent and focused on improving the quality of education in this country.
For these reason, as a young generation we should help our society from poverty, corruption, and education problem. It is because Indonesia’s future is hold on its young generation. all of failure that have done by our government, it can be experience for us to rebuild Indonesia better.

Using Cellular Phone While Driving

People in this era have so many busy activities to do in their life. They often in hurry going somewhere and never forget to bring their cellular phones to manage everything and not to miss any important conversation. That is why, seeing somebody controls his steering wheel with one hand and hold his hand phone on the other hand is not a strange thing for us today. Although it is very important to always keep in touch with our colleagues by phone, even when we are driving, I thing doing those activities at the same time are unacceptable. I have three reasons to support my opinion.
The first reason is because phoning and driving can prevent us from concentrating on driving. No matter how professional we are in driving, it will be so hard for us to focus on two or more different activities in a time. For example, when we are talking to somebody on phone we will pay our attention to the topic we are talking about. Some people try to deny this theory by saying that the thing which prevent us on concentrating on driving is we do not use our two hands to control the steering wheel. Therefore, they use hands free mode to phone while driving. However, it is not about what kind of phoning mode we use. It is about how phoning can disturb our focus on driving. A friend of mine, Halim, said, “Phoning while driving is really disturbing. I cannot divide my concentration whether I have to drive or to phone. When I try to focus on my steering wheel, it is useless. I am still thinking about the conversation on phone.” The effect of loosing concentration while driving will be worse for someone who is new and inexperienced in driving.
Second, using cellular phone while we are driving raises the risk of crash. The most popular cause of getting crash that people think is our failure to control our vehicle under alcoholic influence, without knowing that using cellular phone while driving has worse impact. An article by Kevin McGran in the Toronto Star talks about research presented The International Conference on Distracted Driving at The Toronto Hilton. McGran said, “If you are driving and on a cell phone, you are about four times more likely to be in an accident. Similar odds to those of driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.08%.” (retrieved on February 9th, 2012 from http://www.essayjudge.com/document_detail.php?doc_id=51). Similarly, Edgar Snyder on his site served a data statistics that in 2009, 5,474 people were killed in the U.S. because of accidents that involved distracted driving. Another 448,000 were injured. Of the 5,474 killed because of distracted driving, 995 involved reports of a cell phone as a factor. However, the number of fatalities caused by cell phone use could be much higher. For those who were injured, 24,000 involved reports of cell phone use as a distraction (retrieved on February 14th, 2012 from http://www.edgarsnyder.com/car-accident/cell-phone/statistics.html).
Third, we can wait to use our cellular phones until we finish driving. Some people try to make their act of phoning while driving right by saying that they want to manage their time efficient. We have to think it twice before we do it by thinking about the effect we will get. For illustration, in average we need thirty minutes to go to our office by our vehicle. Not most of us use all the thirty minutes to make a call to someone. We usually need one-third of the time. It means we just spend ten minutes to communicate by phone. If we lose our concentration in that ten minutes, we can get an accident on the road. The efficiency we want will be useless if we got a crash and make us hospitalized. Besides, we have to spend our money to pay the hospital and make us off from work, which means we do not earn any money. Moreover, it is also possible that we dead in the accident. Therefore, it is better to keep our cellular phone off or not making any phone call while we are driving.
For these reasons, using cellular phone while driving is forbidden because it can disturb our concentration on driving, raises the risk of crash, and it is something that can be delayed to prevent its bad effect. Using cellular phone while we are driving just like tempting fate. Therefore, it is better for us to think about every bad effect that we can get from everything we will do.
